Fastest Growth School Districts Call on Texas Legislature to Stand Up for Public Schools

AUSTIN, TEXAS-The following statement on the Texas Legislative Session and fast-growing school districts’ legislative priorities should be attributed to Dr. Greg Smith, Executive Director, Fast Growth School Coalition:

“Fast Growth School Coalition looks forward to working with the new House Public Education Chairman Brad Buckley, members of his committee and their colleagues at the State Capitol this session.

“We hope our state leaders recommit to our public schools, rejecting school vouchers, establishing a KIDS-centered testing and accountability system, and providing the necessary resources for fast-growth districts to meet the needs of their growing populations with new facilities.

“We know money matters in public education, and any effort to siphon limited taxpayer dollars from public schools into private schools and companies hurts our students, local schools, and teachers.

“Today’s Texas public schools offer students and their families unparalleled school choice and innovation. Fast Growth School Coalition and our member districts are proud to deliver real school choice for every student.

“As some of the largest and fastest-growing school districts in Texas, our members are deeply connected to our communities, to the businesses that invest and grow here, and to our students. There’s real ROI in investing in public education.”
